Who is Dalbey

Well, I am, or we are. I’m the bey of Dalbey: Kolbey. My husband is the Dal: Dalon. We are an interabled couple.

You ate probably wondering Iinterable??? WTF is that? Well, it’s a rather new term so let me explain. Interabled is where one individual in a relationship has some form of disability and the other does not, or is what is considered “able-bodied.”

My husband Dalon has a condition called infantile polymyositis muscular dystrophy. I know it’s a mouthful. Basically, it’s a very rare form of MD. This leaves Dalon in a wheelchair with very weak muscles. I on the other hand am what they call “able-bodied.”

Dalon and I are pretty thick-skinned and easy-going people. With that, not a lot bothers us. We don’t worry about what others think of us. So we don’t mind sharing our relationships with others. Our whole goal is to break through some of the stigmas around interabled relationships. Our hope is to be a voice for those who cannot be one for themselves.

So this blog is my voice on being a caregiver. My goal is to discuss and give encouragement, on topics that full-time caregivers face. I know that this will not be the voice of ALL caregivers. However, I hope I can shed some light on the challenges we all and give some encouragement to those who might need it.
